Hanlan’s Meat Market

In Bridgegport, West Virginia there’s a quaint community market that sells custom meat cuts and local goods. It’s been a staple of the community for over 30 years. When the Hanlan family bought the business in 2024, they wanted to re-brand it to make it their own and make the market more hip, fun, and current.

They asked me to create a brand that had a vintage vibe while also looking new and fresh. It had to have a homegrown feel—something they could really grow into and expand as they revamped the business.

Creating a Brand System

The concept for the cow logo stemmed from a drawing the owner’s sister did (pictured below). From that sweet image, we created a cow icon that could serve as the base of the brand. This combined with the leave elements and old timey typeface treatment established the Hanlan’s new look for the market. This modular design allows for many variations of the logo and its icons, which can be used for everything from social media profile pictures to stickers to meat packaging labels.

Expanding the Market Brand

This versatile and flexible logo system works well in many contexts, and is used to brand all aspects of the market. The Hanlan’s wanted the market to extend beyond food and be a symbol of their West Viriginia community. They sell hats and shirts at local farmer’s markets along with goods from local vendors.
